THE MYTH OF TIME SCREENS
AT IFP CONFERENCE 2009
IN CONJUNCTION WITH ROOFTOP FILMS
Release Date: September 25th
This past week director Jaguar X attended the IFP conference 2009
with the film "The Myth of Time."

The film's official trailer was screened to a receptive audience through
Rooftop Films at the waterfront in DUMBO, Brooklyn; and again at the
Chelsea Clearview Cinemas to an industry crowd.
The response to the trailer was overall positive. Several enthusiastic
audience members corroborated with DVD purchases the following week.

Highlights of the IFP conference: definitely the Florida Film Commission's sushi party mid conference. A great place to network, and dance. And eat as much buffet sushi as humanly possibly, while downing two, sometimes three bottles of free Saporo simultaneously. Plus, meeting directly with Brian Quain of the Florida Film Festival, a tasteful programmer who cares.
The IFP conference was hosted at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, NY, and Jaguar prepared every morning by shadow boxing in a nearby park before sunrise.
Three months of buildup. Now that IFP's over, and it's on to next year's class, "The Myth of Time" enters into its festival submission phase.

Release Date: August 25th
“The Myth of Time” will be released by Le Rwa Entertainment LLC
on DVD Oct 15th, and is available for pre-order beginning September 4th.
After its long awaited arrival and the popularity of the blog,
2012 Ways to Live and Die: Making The Myth of Time, Le Rwa

pre-order.
“Fans kept finding us on the internet, sending emails saying
‘where can I buy this, how can I buy this?’ and now we have a method,”
says writer/director Jaguar X.

“Initially, we were waiting for a film sale with an independent distributor,
but after watching the so-called independent film industry crash over the last
three years, and the increase in internet spending on entertainment media,
we asked ourselves; ‘do we want to continue to be buyers, pawning everything we own to cover festival entry and film conference fees, or
do we want to be sellers?’” remarks producer Scorpion H.
We spent so much time courting middlemen that we lost track of what
we were really trying to accomplish, take our vision to our audience.
Who is our audience? No demographics, no polls, no phony marketing
ploys.
Our audience is You.
The pre-order DVD will be available for the low price of $15, including shipping.
It includes the complete 96 minute feature length film The Myth of Time, and Scenes Selections and Language features.
Don't hesitate to get in on this offer early, once our limited edition autographed copies sell out, we will be selling the DVD for $19.99 plus S&H.
This is a great opportunity for our fans to experience “The Myth of Time”
in their own home, invite their friends over and throw a party for an experience
that, to quote an anonymous member of our first screening,
"will change their lives forever."
2012 Ways to Live & Die:
Making The Myth of Time
Release Date: July 1st
At our private screenings, before and after we showed the film, audience members would always ask us, "5 years shooting in Guatemala, how did you pull this off?"
A magician never gives away his secrets, but he will on occasion share some anecdotal evidence. After telling stories about sneaking film cameras into temples in children's backpacks, being left naked and covered in red paint on the side of the highway, fending off lynch mobs with fire power, and the general ins and outs of production (wink, wink), we decided it would be best for our fans and for aspiring filmmakers to put our making of story into a blog.

2012 Ways to Live & Die is a poetic and chaotic chronicle of the making of our feature length film “The Myth of Time.”
We take you through the good times and the bad, and show you first hand the love and the fight that goes into every frame of celluloid.
You would never expect when you start out making a film independently that you'd have over 100 encounters with the police, would you? Or that taking cough medicine for a flu could make your heart explode.
Most people think they'll be able to get money from friends and family, and go straight to Sundance off of merit. But what we show you is that the festivals are bought out by exclusive groups of executive producers, after Hollywood has its way, of course.
Still not convinced? It's OK. Most people mistake our real stories for metaphor.
But these aren't segues or hooks. This is real life, on film.

THE MYTH OF TIME ACCEPTED TO
IFP LABS AND FILM WEEK
Release Date: June 14
This past week, “The Myth of Time” participated in the Labs portion of a fellowship awarded by the nation's oldest and most prestigious organization for helping filmmakers, the Independent Filmmaker Project.
There we met 9 other groups of filmmakers selected for the Emerging Narrative section of IFP.
And we received great feedback from our peers and mentors.
It was wonderful to be among film creators and cinephiles, and hear our film compared to cinema legends Pasolini and Jodorowsky. Jay Rabinowitz, editor of Tree of Life and Requiem for a Dream, even was bold enough to state
that "Terrence Malick would be jealous" of our film.

Plus, we saw a lot of great films that will be hitting festivals this year, to name a few Postales, Wanderlost, Au Pair Kansas, and Phasma Ex Machina.
In September we will return to IFP Film Week to meet with distributors, sales reps, and learn more about how to take our film to the public.
But what we've already heard this June may have confirmed our beliefs. With the independent film buying environment in shambles, we will have to employ a self distribution mechanism to both publicize and capitalize on “The Myth of Time.”
With over 12 independent buyers now in bankruptcy or out of existence, the internet is the only way for the moment to take our message to the audience.
Lucky for us and you, we live in a time where the technology is available.
Like Robert Rodriguez said, "if you're creative, you can become technical."
Adapt, Improvise, Overcome.
THE MYTH OF TIME PARTICIPATES IN NALIP'S 10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE LATINO MEDIA MARKET IN NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA
Release Date: April 20th
This past weekend our film, “The Myth of Time,” participated in NALIP's Latino Media Market.
NALIP is the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, and selected us along with a handful of other films to take part in a sales conference where we spoke directly with independent/specialty film distributors.
More than anything it was great exposure and a wonderful learning experience. The NALIP conference is unlike others in that everyone treats each other like family. At most festivals and trade shows, everyone is competing with each other and will do anything to get ahead for themselves, but at NALIP, the participants are actively looking for new opportunities and open to sharing their experiences in film.
Of any group of people, this is the most aware in the industry in terms of the single understanding:
What's being shown on television and in theatres has got to change!
We're coming to another age of art and entertainment, and unfortunately the powers that be have us living in the past.
We did meet with some talented people on the distribution side however,
Isai Balthezar of Vanguard Cinema, and Stephanie Sharis of Snag Films
care very much about bringing authentic content to the market, and were both intrigued by our film.
We met aspiring filmmakers William Caballero and Belinda Salazar, and actor Adrian Martinez. Also of note, was an opening speech given by Luis Valdez, director of La Bamba and Zoot Suit, and collaborator of Cesar Chavez. His words were amazing, and to hear someone speak that honestly about the importance of conveying an original message in cinema was reassuring.
Every year the conference gets better I'm told. This year it was hosted at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California, and we received a scholarship to attend.
I'm already looking forward to next year.
MELVIN VAN PEEBLES GIVES
A REVIEW OF THE MYTH OF TIME
Release Date: Jan 1st, 2009
After meeting with the acclaimed director of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song this past month, he has viewed our film and given his approval:
"The film blew me away. Great! Different! Innovative! Gotta see....Honestly."

We always have had a deep respect for Melvin as he stands as one of the only individuals to ever make a film of high artistic caliper and find success in mainstream distribution. And that's what differentiates him from the others. He put his heart on film, which coincided with a true message for the time; the black experience of the past century summarized by the happenings of one ill fated night when a black male prostitute kills two police officers in defense of his fellow brother.
He made it with his own personal funds, and was able to single-handedly carry his vision to the screen and find success with an untapped audience. After Sweetback found commercial success, of course, a formula was established, and he has been imitated countless times since.
What differentiates Van Peebles from the rest, above all other reasons, is that he is a true poet. He's a real writer, director, and performer, lacking in no capacity. To see poetry move as cinema never fails to change modes and lives.
Most films that people associate with independent filmmaking are amateur efforts. Bad writing, bad acting, bad camera. Everyone knows it, yet they find support because of their financial and sales connections.
It's a micro mini Hollywood, and it frustrates the audience beyond belief.
But when I saw Baadassss, which is Melvin's son, Mario's, recount of his father's experience making Sweetback, I was able to identify. A real artist is speaking on film and making a difference in the world. If it was possible in 1970 it has to be possible today.
Being able to contact Melvin and receive his word of approval based on a cold call was not only a boost to our confidence but an initiation into the tradition of the art form of cinema.
THE MYTH OF TIME PREMIERES IN NEW YORK WITH A PRIVATE SCREENING AT THE TRIBECA GRAND
Release Date: December 12th
Tommy Saleh, creative director of the Tribeca Grand Hotel New York came to our aid and afforded us the opportunity to show our film at the venue's amazing private screening room.
The Grand's screening room features state of the art digital projectors and has been acknowledged as one of the best in the country.
That we were able to use the space on donation was both fate and fortune to us. We played to a full house that unseasonably hot night of December, 70 degrees in New York.

Supposedly, the temperature increase was due to volcanic activity in Mexico and Central America. No doubt, The Arrival.
At the screening was acting coach Gary Swanson who invited us to his workshop, The Montauk Group. Audience members were struggling forming comparisons and criticisms, aptly scanning their brains for their favorite directors to make the connection, El Topo, Mondo Cane, Buñuel.
It's either astounding art films from the 60's and 70's or tears and short breaths. We'll take both. Our screening confirms how different and innovating “The Myth of Time” is for it's time.
Introducing a new style of cinema we term Caleidismo that blends poetry and audio-visual symbolism over a mixture of cultures, “The Myth of Time” is not exclusively film or art.
It is an experience that invites you to change your mind.
THE MYTH OF TIME ATLANTA
FILM SCREENING AND BBQ
Release Date: October 13th
Well, in the South it's either a film event or a BBQ that attracts anonymous visitors to your house on a warm night in early October. And in our case, it was both.
With BBQ chicken, Georgia Boy sausages, fresh guacamole, collared greens, watermelon lemonade, fresh bean dip, and homemade chile sauce it was a Guatemalan-Southern fusion style cookout with 20 random strangers we've bumped into over the years.
Some we'd seen at other film parties, some we'd met working between LA, NY, and ATL, but most were just friends of friends.
The most incredible fact about our audience is that every single person present had a distinct background from the person sitting next to them. No single person shared a profession, ethnicity, or political standing; and originally fearing the results, we were pleasantly surprised.

"You're film changed my life forever," was our most typical response.
"You showed your soul, and that's the biggest challenge of them all."
"All good and evil is inside the film, but it's not about good or evil, it's about humanity, and how we survive."
"If those are your dreams, I don't want to see your nightmares."
Maybe the good food was the trick. Maybe it was the weather.
Maybe a group of strangers in a room with “The Myth of Time” was enough to make everyone forget where they came from, and where they were going in their personal lives enough to experience a true audio-visual animal, and craft it into a life changing experience.
After having spent 2 years editing, and 1 year perfecting our sound design, we achieved the greatest success we could for the moment- audience satisfaction.
Our Atlanta showing was the christening.
